21 Hercules’ 1st
Labor: Nemean Lion
o Fast Facts:
There is no one original source for the fable of the 12 Labors of
Hercules, though scholars point to a lost 6th c. BC epic poem by
Peisander (fl. ~650 B.C.) as the earliest known source. A convenient summary of the Labors is
contained in the “Library” of Greek myth and legend traditionally attributed to
Apollodorus (fl. 2nd c. B.C.)
A translation of Apollodorus’ account is available online at several
sites, including
